Alcoholism is a serious illness that is treatable, but the first step toward an alcoholism cure is to realize there is a problem. If you drink because you feel sad or angry, if it causes you to be late for work or not show up at all, if your family worries about your drinking habit or if you ever tell yourself that you wont drink and then do it anyway, you may be suffering from alcoholism.

The second step to a successful alcoholism cure is to visit a doctor to determine whether or not you have a dependency on alcohol, whether or not you should cut back or quit altogether. If you find that you consume alcohol even though you have other medical problems, it is important that you stop right away. A physician will advise you on the best way to begin your alcoholism cure.

Because alcoholism tends to be passed down genetically, you may be at a higher risk for developing dependency and a pattern of excessive drinking before you even know it. If your family does have a history of alcoholism, it is best to minimize or completely avoid social drinking.

Once you recognize the problem and wish to proceed with an alcoholism cure, you should take a piece of paper and write down all of the reasons that you want to stop drinking. The next step is to set a realistic goal, which should not be overly harsh or unreachable. During your treatment, keep a journal of your drinking habits so that you can make sure to stay on track. This should be done for one month and will provide you with motivation to continue reducing your alcohol intake.

One of the most positive steps toward an alcoholism cure is to remove all of the alcohol from your home. Staying active may also help to reduce your desire to drink and may include a trip to the movies, a sporting event or dining out at a local restaurant. By removing yourself from situations where you may be tempted to drink, you may effectively lessen the likelihood that you will even want a drink. If you find that your attempts at an alcoholism cure are unsuccessful, join a support group or enroll in a treatment clinic on either an in-patient or out-patient basis.

Six Steps of Healing


These are remedies you can use for your problem in order from safest to most dangerous: Step 0 is the safest; Step 6 the most dangerous. Use Steps 0, 1, 2 and 3 as preventive medicine. Prevention is an important, though often invisible, way of healing/wholing in the Wise Woman tradition. Deep relaxation, information exchange, energetic engagement, optimum nourishment (including touch) and exercise promote health with little or no side effects.

Examples are in parenthesis: (with a few of the modalities available at each step)

Step 0: Do Nothing
(sleep, meditate, unplug the clock or the telephone)

A vital, invisible step.

Step 1: Collect Information
(low-tech diagnosis, books, support groups, divination)

tep 2: Engage the Energy
(prayer, homeopathy, ceremony, affirmations, color, laughter)

Step 3: Nourish and Tonify
(herbal infusions and vinegars, hugs, exercise, food choices, gentle massage, yoga stretches)

Note: Healing with Steps 4, 5, and 6 always causes some harm.

Step 4: Stimulate/Sedate
(hot or cold water, many herbal tinctures, acupuncture)

For every stimulation/sedation, there is an opposite sedation/stimulation, sooner or later. Addiction is possible if this step is overused.

Step 5a: Use Supplements
(synthesized or concentrated vitamins, minerals, and food substances such as nutritional yeast, blue-green algae, bran, royal jelly or spirulina)

Supplements are not Step 3. Theres always a risk with synthesized concentrated substances that theyll do more harm than good.

Step 5b: Use Drugs
(chemotherapy, tamoxifen, hormones, high dilution homeopathics, and potentially toxic herbs)

Overdose may cause grave injury or death.

Step 6: Break and Enter
(threatening language, surgery, colonics, radiation therapies, psychoactive drugs, invasive diagnostic tests such as mammograms and C-T scans)

Side effects are inevitable and may include permanent injury or death.


If you want to remedy your problem with the least possible side effects and danger, start at Step 1. After reading Step 1, pick one remedy from Step 2 and set a time limit for working with it. If your problem is unresolved within that time, decide if the time limit needs expanding or if you are ready to go to Step 3. Continue in this manner, moving to Steps 4, 5 or 6 as needed, until your problem is solved.

Each step up increases the possibility of side effects and their severity so try at least one of the Step 2 techniques, even if they seem strange to you, before going onto the remedies of Step 3 and beyond (note also that time spent at Step 2 will help you choose appropriate remedies at Step 3 and so on). When your problem is resolved dont stop. Go back through the steps, in reverse, before resting at Step 0.

You can continue to take remedies from a previous Step after moving on, but be cautious about the use of Step 4 remedies in combination with Step 5 remedies.

If you deem it necessary to heal through Step 5 and/or 6 (and real healing can and does take place with the aid of drugs and surgery) and have not yet tried any techniques from Steps 2 and 3, do so immediately. Engaging the energy, nourishing and tonifying will aid and abet the healing powers of the more dangerous healing ways and help prevent or moderate their side effects.

– Laboratory results are positive of drug overdose
– The elder displays a sudden change of behavior
– The care giver refuses to allow visitors to see the elder

2. Signs Of Neglect:

– Sores are untreated
– Displays significant signs of malnutrition
– May show signs of insanity
– Lack of personal hygiene care

3. Signs Of Emotional Abuse:

– May display a nervous behavior
– Constantly be disturbed or upset
– Displays a negative attitude
– Always in anxiety
– Demonstrate signs of insecurity, such as constant sucking or biting of the fingers

4. Financial Abuse:

– Unknown withdrawal from the elders account
– Unusual ATM withdrawals and switching of accounts
– The elder tend to withdraw money often
– The elder does not receive his pension or Social Security check from the mail
– The elder, without any valid reason, revises his will and changes his beneficiary
– The elder unexplainably signs contracts that results to unwanted financial commitment
– Signature was forged
– The elder has plenty of unpaid bill, despite his assets that can very well cover the bill
– Strange credit card charges

5. Signs Of Sexual Abuse

– Mysterious and unexplained genital infection
– Anal or vaginal bleeding that can not be explained
– Ripped underwear
– The elder may tell someone that she has been sexually abused
– Genitals are bruised
– The elder may report that her care giver is showing her pornographic materials
– The report of the elder that she is forced to touch someones genitals, observe sexual acts, tell dirty stories and pose nude for a picture

6. How Can You Prevent Abuse To Yourself As An Elder?

– Keep and continue contacts with friends and neighbors
– Work out on a buddy system with other elders in the home
– Be active socially, do not be in isolation
– Protest and speak up if you are not happy or contented with the way your caregiver or other family member treats you. Tell somebody
– Request your friends and other relatives to visit you often
– Open your mail personally
– Never sign anything unless it was reviewed by someone that you trust
– Always review your will once in a while
– Coordinate so that your pension or Social Security check be deposited directly to your bank account than being sent by mail

7. How Can You Prevent Abuse To Others?

– Pay attention. Be wary and look out for signals that might point towards abuse
– Call your loved one as frequently as possible
– Visit your loved one often and make certain that she is well taken cared of
– Always be open to your loved one, taking the time to always talk to her and assure her that you are there to help and can be trusted
– Get permission to periodically look into your loved ones bank accounts as well as credit card statements for unauthorized withdrawals or transactions
